French Rooster Wins Court Case
Maurice the rooster, who lives on the island of Saint-Pierre-d’Oléron, has won the court case brought against him by his neighbors. They had complained that his crowing was noise pollution.
The judge found against the neighbors, ordering them to pay around $1,100 in damages.
The case had attracted a lot of attention in France, because, according to CNN, it “came to symbolize the polarization between rural and urban France.” The litigious neighbors were city dwellers who only visited the island several times a year.
Thankfully, Maurice can now smoke his cigarettes, do mime, eat baguettes and other stereotypical French things, assured in the knowledge that the law is on his side. And that he will probably outlive all of us.
