105 Year-Old Sets Running Record

If you happen to run into Julia “Hurricane” Hawkins at a bar and she offers you to race- do not take her up on it. Especially if money is on the line.

Julia just created and set the world record for runners in the over 105 years-old category. Hawkins set the 1:02:95 record last weekend at the National Senior Games in Louisiana. (It wasn’t as strong a showing as she had hoped for, but a record’s a record.) Hawkins set the 100-meter record in 2007 for the 100-104 year-old category with a time of 39:62, but that was eventually broken by 100 year-old whippersnapper Diane Friedman.

However, now competing in a new category, The Hurricane stands alone atop the podium. Hawkins says she has no plans to stop now and her record is clearly ready to fall at any moment. And if you feel like it’s too late to start a new activity, Hawkins didn’t start running until age 100.
