Episode 29- Professional Bridesmaid Caroline Bright

Caroline Bright has done oodles of fascinating things. She’s a former Miss. Vermont, a flight attendant and a professional bridesmaid and that’s just a smattering of her repertoire. Get ready, because you’ll be hearing us chat with Caroline a few times over the course of the season focusing on her various forays.

Obviously, since June is busting out all over, we felt it was best to kick-off wedding season with a walk down the aisle and how on earth she managed to turn bridesmaiding into a lucrative business.

We’ve all been there. Whether you’ve been a bridesmaid, selected bridesmaids, dated a bridesmaid or hooked up with one in the coat room at a reception we all know the honor comes with some… responsibility.

The job of standing by your loved one’s side as they profess eternal love to their future spouse goes far beyond pre-selected, costly wardrobe. It often morphs into wedding planner meets psychologist meets family intervener meets holding up the dress for the bride the one time she gets the chance to go to the bathroom. It’s a privilege, right? Hmm…

What if there was someone who could take over the worst parts of the job, allowing all the other attendants and the happy couple to focus on just the good parts?  That’s precisely what Caroline Bright has done. After many years of standing up in weddings she saw there was clearly an opportunity to turn this into a business. Part Olivia Pope and part J. Lo in The Wedding Planner, Bright is right there to help make the big day sail smoothly.

Her services range from making follow-up calls to vendors, to assisting with managing the many personalities involved to sometimes even walking down the aisle and creating a backstory of how she knows the bride.

She shared with us tips of the trade on managing personality conflicts to keeping things moving on schedule and what tunes will get the party to the dancefloor. We also took a stab at some of our own experiences and how to teach brides, grooms and otherwise what is an appropriate first dance song vs. not. For the last time people, Every Breath You Take is about a stalker, My Heart Will Go On is about death and I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For… um if you can’t figure that one out, you’ve got bigger problems than we can solve.

We asked her about some of her favorite themes and if there were ever any couples she wanted to just tell to run the other way. You’ll have to listen to find out the answer to that one.

She told us details about what it’s like to maneuver multiple religions in a ceremony and how much she loves that so many traditional restrictions are being bucked thanks to the opportunity for all who are in love being able to get married.

We even got her to confess her plans for her own wedding, which was coming up just after our interview. Did she manage to take a dose of her own medicine and stay calm throughout. Based on the recent photos and Instagram posts, we think she pulled it off.

Have a listen to our first episode with Caroline and you two will be hearing those wedding bells ring. Looking for a bridesmaid just like her? Visit her website at: https://www.aprofessionalbridesmaid.com
