Episode 80- Effin Birds with Aaron Reynolds

Fuck 2020. You know you feel it too, but maybe you don’t feel like you can be shouting it from the rooftops for fear of offending the neighbors. However, you could probably get away with it on a t-shirt conveniently peeking out from under an open button down. You may even be able to get away with shedding the over shirt if that t-shirt also had an olde tyme looking bird on it.

Thankfully Effin Birds is here for all your swearing and snarky wit needs to get you through any painful work meeting, annoying family reunion or simply day to day life during a pandemic.

The brainchild of Aaron Reynolds, the Effin Birds empire hatched by way of Twitter with their fabulous pictures and quotes that range from, “I Bet This Problem Will Go Away If We Have More Meetings,” to “Eat Farts.” The birds know just what to say in any given moment. The birds conquered Twitter with fans flocking to the feed to share the latest Effin Birds sentiments. Soon they expanded into a whole line of t-shirts, mugs, pins and other merchandise for eager fans.

Most recently the Effin Birds: A Field Guide to Identification book was released featuring an anthology of some of the birds’ most memorable descriptions and uses of profanity.

We got the chance to interview Aaron to learn how he came up with such a genius idea as well as to talk about some of his other creations that took fans and the internet by storm, namely Swear Trek and Bat Labels.

We found out how he gets his inspiration and how he determines who the right bird is for the quote. We also found out which saying is his favorite and which bird is the easiest to write for.

Aaron has built Effin Birds to be such a hit that the asshole avians are actually his main source of income with new fans ordering merch and spreading the word every day. Who wouldn’t love to have a gig of sharing the inner most asshole thoughts of birds with the world? Aaron’s done it and it doesn’t seem like the birds will be quieting down any time soon.

Aaron and the birds have been featured in numerous publications including Outside Magazine. Even the Audubon Society approves. Don’t believe us? Listen to this week’s episode to learn the story.

The “Eat Farts” shirt had its own appearance on Last Week Tonight With John Oliver where it was sported by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. We’re telling you these birds are taking over the world.
